Outgang Lane, Dinnington
Date: March 2025
Project: Carriageway Resurfacing
Client: Rotherham Council
Project Overview: Undertaken at Outgang Lane, Dinnington, to enhance road durability and improve drainage infrastructure. Due to the high traffic volume during the day, the project was executed in multiple phases during night shifts to minimise traffic disruption.
Project Scope: The project was structured into three main phases:
Phase 1 & Phase 2
Location: Knavesmire Lane to Monksbridge Roundabout / Monksbridge Roundabout to Manor Lane.
Key Works Completed:
Installation of new gully pots, grates, and frames.
Replacement of old drainage infrastructure with new UPVC drainage pipes and gully connections.
Complete removal (plane-out) of the existing asphalt surface.
Application of a new base and binder course.
Final surface course laid with 10mm Steelflex 68 PSV for improved durability and skid resistance.
Traffic Management: Each phase was completed and reopened sequentially to ensure minimal disruption to road users.
Phase 3
Location: Monksbridge Roundabout.
Work Breakdown:
This phase was further divided into two sub-phases to align with the overnight work schedule.
Road closures and diversions were implemented late in the evening to facilitate work during non-peak hours.
Full removal (plane-out) of the old, worn surface course.
Installation of a new 10mm Steelflex 68 PSV surface course.
Replacement of manhole covers and frames as part of the improvements.
Application of fresh line markings and demarcation zones to match existing road layouts.
Outcome:
The project successfully improved road conditions while minimising daytime traffic disruption.
Upgraded drainage infrastructure enhanced surface water management.
The use of high-quality Steelflex 68 PSV material ensured enhanced skid resistance and longevity.
Careful phasing and night-time execution allowed for smooth project completion with minimal inconvenience to the public.
This strategic approach ensured that Outgang Lane, Dinnington, received a high-quality, long-lasting surface while supporting efficient traffic flow throughout the project's duration.
