Health and Safety

hardhat Health and Safety

The Directors and staff of Derek Lewis Ltd are fully committed to providing safe and healthy working environments and excellent welfare facilities for all our employees at all times. This also extends to our customers, the contractors working on our behalf and any visitors that attend our premises and sites. Of particular concern to us is the health and safety of members of the public whom we encounter during our routine work activities.

We manage these risks by operating a robust Health & Safety Management System that is audited and reviewed for its ongoing effectiveness on a regular basis. Risk assessments of our work activities and equipment are conducted and our staff are trained in the appropriate measures necessary to reduce any risks to an acceptable and manageable level in their day-to-day roles. For those hazards that require more substantial control measures the Directors are committed to providing the appropriate resources to eliminate these wherever possible.

All our staff are able to contact the Directors at anytime to discuss any aspect of health, safety and welfare that they are concerned about and the ‘open door’ policy adopted within the business ensures all concerns are heard and acted upon promptly. Any changes to work activities or the work environment which may affect the health, safety and welfare of any person are only performed after full consultation with the workforce. We firmly believe that every employee has “the right” to go home safely at the end of each day.

We strive to continually improve our health and safety performance and act proactively to ensure accidents, incidents and ‘near misses’ are never repeated. We are proud to be members of Constructionline and accredited members of The Contractor’s Health & Safety Scheme (CHAS) and strive to continually satisfy the health and safety needs and expectations of all our customers, large or small.
